It's a story 13 years in the writing. I started telling this story all the way back in 2007, when the tale of Nick begins. There's so many facets, so many stories layered into stories that I'm glad it's taken this long. Because sometimes the only way to truly understand the events which have shaped a life, you need the distance of time.
But, it's also a hell of a lot of fun to dive back into feeling like a teenager again, and that's exactly why I love ALL THE LOVERS. It's a story about a very specific person, in a very specific place and time, but somehow transcends 2007 Leeds to feel like a story we can all relate to; a kid trying to figure life out.
Plus, I created this banging playlist featuring the songs of the book and the sounds of the summers of 2007 / 08. It's been an amazing experience going back in time with these epoch-defining songs. I hope you get the chance to go back to your own teenage years with this playlist, and the book.
